Mr. Dick Labonte
Career
Mr. Dick Labonte has been working in the Ministry of Finance for the past 12 years. He started out as an Economist in the Macroeconomic Forecasting and Analysis Branch and was gradually promoted to Principal economist within the same division.
In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, he was promoted to Director General within the Debt Management Division in order to reinforce the division’s capacity as the country started negotiation for an economic reform program with the IMF; a post that he is currently occupying.
Experience
Mr. Labonte has great interest in statistics and economics related issues, especially in the field of macroeconomics. Being the director general of the Debt office, he is in a good position to help communicate DBS’ financial position to the Government and provide an informed judgment in ensuring smooth business continuity of DBS. His experience and knowledge is valuable in ensuring DBS’ financing needs are met on a timely basis with a prudent degree of risk.
Qualifications
Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Finance with the University of Manchester (2010). His interest in economics and statistics led him to pursue a Master’s Degree in Economics and Econometrics with the same University (2011).
