SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR
The System Administrator is responsible for troubleshooting, licensing and updating hardware and software assets in order to mitigate unforeseen issues such as IT downtime or zero-day exploits and ensure that appropriate measures are proactively taken and will require knowledge in the following:
- Knowledge in installation and configuration of software and hardware on end users equipment as required such as Microsoft 365, Xerox Printers, etc.
- Significant experience in regular monitoring of computer system performance and troubleshooting issues, and address any issue detected or reported
- Knowledge and expertise to train staff on new computer technologies and conduct training programs to bring users up to pace with new software installations or IT system changes
- Build an internal wiki (help page) with technical documentation, manuals and IT policies for staff self-development, for example an Intranet
- Monitor and manage our internal help desk and delegate and assign support tasks as required.
- Compile and maintain an accurate inventory of software and hardware and maintain the existing PCs and peripherals to standards determined by the Head of Information Systems and IT policy
Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) Information Technology or Computer Science related field plus 2 years of relevant working experience.
- Diploma in Information Technology or related certification plus 5 years relevant working experience
Added Advantage
Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop certifications such as CompTIA Network+ and A+, Unix, Linux or any other relevant industry recognized qualification will be an advantage.
Competencies
- Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role
- Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
- Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
- Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
- Able to work independently, act with tact and discretion
- Good judgmental and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Problem solving; troubleshooting and understanding key systems are essential.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
